![]() Roman Davis Staff Writer Right when COVID hit, a lot of people’s day-to-day activities were limited; everyone getting used to no contact delivery or curbside pickup which limited exposure to people and new experiences. After the pandemic settled down, I got to go to a food truck on S 25th Street located next to Soda Tsunami: The Corndog Company. Upon parking and going up to the food truck, I was met with one of the workers at the window, who took my order with a smile. The company’s menu is placed next to the side of the truck on a stand, showing their prices and what the dishes are. I ordered an "Epic" Corn Dog and an order of their homemade kettle chips and after paying, it only took about five minutes to come out. I spent those few minutes walking over to the Soda Tsunami next door and ordered a 20 oz "Cocoberry" Bubble Tea. After getting my drink and corn dog, I went back to the car and dug into the food. The corn dog was pretty sizable and really savoury, going along nicely with the warm and lightly salted kettle chips. The kettle chips were made from scratch, taking about five minutes to make and lightly coated in chunky sea salt making all three items a wonderful combo. The “Cocoberry” Bubble Tea was a coconut and strawberry flavoured milk tea with bursting strawberry boba, which added a pleasant, sugary taste to go along with the freshly made corn dog and kettle chips. The bubble tea paired with them, adding sweetness to the already savoury and salty meal, tying it all together to make a filling dish. To many people food trucks are new or something everyone was not allowed to experience. Now with potential quarantine lifted, these experiences that once were banned are now open to us. Instead of going to a restaurant, getting fast food, or having someone doordash some food, go try The Corndog Company and Soda Tsunami and get out of the living space for a little bit.

Co-Editor Located on Pancheri Drive, a couple doors down from Pick Me Up, there is a seemingly out-of-place Mexican restaurant that recently opened its doors. Revolution Burrito is one of the newest restaurant additions to the Idaho Falls area, but are the burritos really revolutionary? At first glance, the establishment is a bright and open space despite the lobby being on the smaller side with just a few tables and a bar seat facing the window. Upon arrival, a staff member is there to greet customers and begin taking orders quickly. The restaurant is set up in a way that food is ordered at the register, then the rest of the crew begins making the food. This setup allows fast and efficient food production, which is a goal Revolution Burrito focuses on. In addition to the main lobby and dining area, they also have a drive-thru. Revolution Burrito offers a few different build-your-own meals including burritos, salads, and bowls. The meals begin by first choosing a protein, with several options to choose from: chicken adobo, mojo pork carnitas, steak, or fajita veggies and guacamole. Second, the addition of various add-ons such as cilantro-lime white rice, black or pinto beans, a variety of salsa, and cilantro-tomatillo ranch is available. Extra toppings include sour cream, shredded cheese, and lettuce. Their side options come in regular and large sizes and consist of chips with either queso, guac, or salsa. They offer Coke products, water, apple juice, and chocolate milk. Revolution Burrito also offers a kids’ quesadilla with the choice of milk, apple juice, or a mini fountain drink. At Revolution Burrito, I had a burrito with chicken adobo (recommended by the staff), cilantro-lime rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, and cilantro-tomatillo ranch with a side of chips and queso. The size of the burrito was nothing too spectacular, but the flavor of the chicken adobo sauce helped compensate for the average size. The chicken adobo had more of a spicy taste, but when combined with the rice, beans, and ranch, there was a satisfying blend of flavors. Overall the burrito was quite enjoyable, and the only critique is the sauce was a bit liquidy and messy. The chips and queso were the perfect addition to the burrito. A large bag of freshly made chips salted and covered with lime juice and a white queso with cilantro and diced tomatoes greatly complimented each other. The lobby was a spacious dining area filled with bright, inviting light. The tables were placed far enough apart that it was not cramped. The line made ordering and picking food up virtually effortless. The answer to whether Revolution Burrito has revolutionary burritos is both yes and no. This restaurant is a fresh start and the beginning of something new, but the burritos do not necessarily have a life changing wow factor that sets them apart. Revolution Burrito is an establishment with quality food along with fast and friendly service; they are burritos definitely worth trying. Griffin Moeller
Co-Editor Just six minutes of screen time and four lines of dialogue were devoted to the bounty hunter Boba Fett in the original Star Wars trilogy before he met his supposed end near the start of Return of the Jedi. Despite his negligible part in the films, the silent gunslinger gained a cult following in the years following his debut. Although a younger version of the character has appeared in Attack of the Clones and the computer-animated series The Clone Wars, Fett was confirmed to have survived in the second season of The Mandalorian, thus opening the door for more stories. One year has passed and his own spin-off series has just concluded. Did The Book of Boba Fett stick the landing? Even though he has been a member of the Star Wars family since 2002, actor Temuera Morrison is relatively new to the role of Fett, having played the character’s father Jango in the past. He is joined by actress Ming-Na Wen’s character Fennec Shand as they struggle to maintain a grip on the desert world of Tatooine. From the beginning, the audience must grapple their attention on a present-day storyline in which Fett is in charge and a series of flashbacks set five years ago, after Fett escaped his demise in Return of the Jedi. While not much progress is made in the present-day plot throughout the first half of the season, fans have praised the memory sequences for their rich storytelling and offering a different perspective on certain aspects of the saga. However, these flashbacks are short-lived, as the fifth and sixth episodes divert attention away from the titular character and focus on Luke Skywalker, Grogu, and Din Djarin, better known as the Mandalorian. While their involvement is exciting to watch, the shift in attention feels jarring for a series whose main character is so beloved. Despite his minimal role in the penultimate episodes, the finale was able to satisfyingly wrap up Fett’s story. Though the series had its ups and downs, there are many fans who enjoyed The Book of Boba Fett despite its flaws, such as Tietjen Kidd. Bonneville High School junior and Star Wars fan, Kidd expressed his enjoyment of the series in an interview. He was asked whether he preferred Boba Fett or Din Djarin, to which he replied, “Oh, Boba Fett! Boba could kick Din’s butt.” Kidd has a positive outlook on the future potential of the series and hopes to see more bounty hunters appear in future seasons. While it is unknown if a second season is in development, The Book of Boba Fett marks a unique moment in the Star Wars franchise: a moment that seems less keen on attending to its main character and would rather celebrate all the stories that preceded it. Staff Writer The Marvel Cinematic Universe, being as crazy as it is, has a new movie to add to the ever-long line up. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a cinematic masterpiece, with an amazing casting, and a phenomenal screenplay. Spider-Man has audiences around the world in awe. With a budget of 200 million dollars, and a high demand from fans, the movie has already made 1.37 billion dollars, breaking records that do not seem to be stopping. With only being the third movie with Tom Holland as Spider-Man, there is speculation if he will have another movie.. Watching this movie in theaters is a must. The experience of the big screen makes this movie just that much better. Spider-Man: No Way Home also has some popular names in the movie: Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, JK Simmons, Jon Favreau, and the list goes on. We see some of the old cast like Tom Holland and Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon making their comeback. A select couple of students were interviewed on their thoughts on the movie. One of those students was a junior, Cooper Dahlberg. His opinion was very positive, on a scale from 1-10 he appointed it an 8. His favorite Spider-Man out of the three was Andrew Garfield, who played spiderman after Tobey Maguire's series. His movies really changed a large amount of what Spider-Man does. Dahlberg liked the older movies better than the newer ones, but still enjoyed "No Way Home". Another student interviewed was junior Teagan Law. He was asked the same questions and had very good answers. He rated the movie an 8-10 as well. His favorite Spider-Man was Tobey Maguire who was the first actor to play Spider-Man, but he did not like his story. He was asked who his favorite superhero was, Spider-Man or Captain America. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a highly rated movie, it is a great movie for old fans of the movies and the new. Griffin Moeller
Copy Editor Some films are produced without the intention of creating an enjoyable theater-specific experience, but instead for home viewing. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, on the other hand, seems to be the exact reason theaters were created. Based on Frank Herbert’s acclaimed book series, Dune, titled onscreen as Dune: Part One, is a modern-day cinematic epic that tells a simple yet substantial story. The original book is regarded as one of the most influential science fiction novels of all time, providing inspiration to Star Wars, Star Trek, and various other works. When Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights to Herbert’s works after David Lynch’s poorly received film adaptation in 1984, the studio decided to split the project into two chapters. The sequel officially received the green-light days after Dune’s release, as the studio had wished to see the critical reception of the first film before a deal was solidified. Since the novel has had a mixed history of adaptations, a coherent story and an all-star cast is required to make it successful, both of which are present in the 2021 picture. The movie follows Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, as he and his family are assigned by the Galactic Emperor to take control of the harsh desert world of Arrakis. However, a series of mysterious visions and political intrigue bring the planet close to another formidable force that threatens Paul and House Atreides. Other cast members include Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Zendaya as Chani, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Stellan Skarsgård as the terrifying Baron of Harkonnen. The high-quality cast is complemented by the captivating tale being told. In an age of extreme film criticism, the cast and plot were both vital factors in the movie’s success, as well as maintaining a fan’s perception of the original story. While the film’s ensemble cast and narrative is entertaining, an audience member’s biggest takeaway from Dune is bound to be its visuals. Villeneuve’s impressive utilization of cinematography and scope can only be properly experienced on the big screen, as the imagery and camerawork is commonly used to express the sheer size of the monstrous dune worms, massive starships, and vast desert landscapes. Dune is a visually beautiful movie that allows movie theaters to unleash their full potential. Villeneuve’s 2021 adaptation of Dune is not just an enthralling or visually stunning film. It is a love letter to Frank Herbert’s original work that introduces the tale to a new generation of moviegoers. Audiences will peruse and appreciate the movie they have been given as they await the release of Dune: Part Two in 2023. Caleb Phethean
Staff Writer After many years another authentic Japanese restaurant is coming to Idaho Falls, in a slowly growing chain of restaurants. If anyone wants to try some, head over to Hokkaido ramen house, a four star restaurant, located at Snake River Landing; this amazingly cozy restaurant is a mix of pure, authentic Japanese culture with a hint of café. When entering the restaurant, the aroma of chicken, beef, and other savory scents that greet customers are just delicious. While waiting to be seated, fantastic art of dragons and historical Japanese warriors span the restaurant and there is also ramen majestically placed across their beautiful walls as art pieces. When deciding what to drink, guests have the option of bubbly Ramune also known as marble soda, boba or bubble tea, and Coke products, while on the same side of the menu, look at the delicious appetizers ranging from gyoza to crab rangoons and more. As the server is retrieving the appetizers and drinks, flip the menu over to look at all of the delicious ramen which varies from a classic chicken flavor “The Chicken Little,” the savory, spicy ramen “The Hotness,” and the delectable veggie ramen “The Vegeta-bowl Ramen.” While there are more strong and rich flavors, these are just some of the popular ones they serve. The restaurant is amazingly cozy, the staff is incredibly welcoming, the variety of drinks and appetizers is amazing, and the different types of ramen adds to the authenticity. Customers should go in the evening, as it makes the restaurant more peaceful, calm, and before any panic sets in. This restaurant is not outrageously expensive like other Japanese restaurants, so customers have no need to spend hundreds of dollars. Whether it is for date night, prom night, or just a casual lunch or dinner, come on over to Hokkaido ramen house. Hokkaido can be found at 901 Pier View Dr., Idaho Falls, or find them on Doordash quick warning however, it is not available until 4:30. Staff Writers Drink shops have popped up all around Idaho Falls, although one unique place stands out from the crowd. Betty’s Boba is a bubble tea and waffle truck located on 1st street near Planet Doom. It is owned and operated by Shaunna Becker, Collin Becker, Abigail Freeman, and others. Open from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Betty’s Boba offers a unique and delicious experience of bubble tea and Thai-inspired food. The Bonneville Buzz were incredibly lucky to interview Shaunna and Collin Becker and know more about this small family business. 28-year-old Collin Becker was the primary influence for opening a boba truck. Collin explained how he found his desire to bring boba to Idaho Falls. “I was sitting at a Thai restaurant three years ago; people were coming in, and they were just getting bobas… I thought that’s something I need to fill, have a mobile place where you can get food but dedicated to boba.” With his mother, Shuanna Becker’s financial support, Collin learned how to make boba, researched the electrical aspects of a food truck, and eventually built their trailer. Collin installed almost everything in the trailer. Without his dedication and help from his family, his dream of opening a boba truck may not have been feasible. Abigail Freeman, daughter of Shaunna Becker, designed the catchy name Betty’s Boba to appeal to younger generations. More importantly, the title references their family dog nicknamed “Betty,” who fell ill with Canine Parvovirus as a young puppy and nearly passed from it. Shaunna stated how the name is genuinely sentimental, “We almost lost her [when she was a puppy], so she’s become something really special to us.” The meaning behind the name truly adds sentiment to this business. Shaunna described how for a long time, it was just her and her children at home. She has been a single mom for 12 years and has worked with special needs individuals for 14 years. She even adopted special needs children. However, She decided to do something different when her kids brought up opening a boba truck. She hopped onto the idea and assisted her kids through every step. She stated that she has had many great experiences and wants to support her kids the best way she can. From experience, this is an exceptional place to visit and hang out. The owners are incredibly kind and genuinely motivated. They are trying their best to get this business up and running. The boba and food are delicious and a great way to try something new. We will be revisiting them. When looking for an enjoyable and unique place to grab a drink or snack, The Buzz wholeheartedly recommends Betty’s Boba. Ana Grover
Staff Writer A new sandwich shop, Jersey Mike’s Subs, opened in Ammon on August 11, 2021. Each new location that the franchise opens partners with a charity; this one supports The Burn Foundation, an organization that provides free assistance to burn victims. The local Jersey Mike’s is located at 2681 East Sunnyside Road. In the store, a customer can order dine-in or takeout. Curbside pickup is available on the website and app, and delivery is available in most areas. The restaurant is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jersey Mike’s offers a broad array of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and sides. When ordering, first select a sandwich; there is a wide range of subs to choose from, including Turkey and Provolone, Tuna Fish, The Original Italian, Chipotle Cheesesteak, and BLT, among others. Once the customer selects a sandwich, there are many sizes to choose from. The mini is five inches, the regular is seven inches, and the giant, which feeds four, is 14-15 inches. Aside from subs, they can be made as wraps or in a keto- and gluten-friendly “Sub in a Tub,” where all the toppings are in a salad-like bowl with lettuce. Prices range from about $5 for the mini to $15 for the giant, although it depends on the sandwich. When I tried Jersey Mike’s, I ordered online and scheduled a time for pickup. I arrived to find the sandwiches were not ready. The restaurant was fairly busy, and the meal was ready almost 30 minutes after the scheduled pickup time. The staff was accommodating by providing my family with two complimentary fountain drinks. This was a nice gesture, but it did not make up for the fact that the hot subs were only warm when we arrived home. I would recommend the Chipotle Cheesesteak sub, which comes with freshly grilled steak, onions, peppers, white American cheese, and chipotle mayo. It is not overly spicy but definitely has a kick. If you are looking for a cold sandwich, try the Tuna Fish or The Original Italian. The tuna fish salad is made fresh every day and is paired with tomatoes, lettuce, chopped celery, and mayonnaise; The Original Italian has provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, pepperoni, tomatoes, and lettuce. All subs are customizable with options to add, remove, or substitute certain ingredients. Overall, Jersey Mike’s Subs are made with quality ingredients and bread baked fresh on location every day. Prices are higher than the average sandwich shop, but they are much better quality. While it will be delicious, preparing the food may take longer than expected, so plan ahead! Visit the Jersey Mike’s Subs website, https://www.jerseymikes.com/ to view the menu, find a location, and place an order. |
