Meet Our Staff
Kimmie Barnes
Editor-In-Chief Hey Y'all! My name is Kimmie Barnes, a senior at BHS. I am the Editor-in-Chief for The Buzz this year and am loving every minute of it! I joined journalism because a family friend encouraged me, and I fell in love with the environment, people, and the writing! I am obsessed with so many things including turtles, frogs, Halloween, Marvel, Tim Burton anything, Coraline, Supernatural, and Avatar the Last Air Bender! In my free time I like to read, color in my various coloring books, go on drives and do nothing. I love anthropology, civil and equal rights, as well as gynecology and dermatology and will probably pursue one of those areas as a career, but I will just go with the flow for now. I cannot wait for y'all to see the amazing things The Buzz has in store! Anyways, peace out homies and please come back and read The Buzz and listen to our podcast! Go Bees! |
Kenna Goertzen
Assistant Editor Hey, Bees! I'm Makenna, a senior at Bonneville High School. I joined journalism because a friend dragged me into the chaos, and I ended up loving it! I am incredibly passionate about writing and learning about communities, people, and events around me. My goal for The Bonneville Buzz Newspaper this year is to shine some light and give recognition to the information the Idaho communities deserve. I am looking forward to seeing the progress and improvement of our little newspaper along with all its new team members! After I graduate I would love to pursue a career in animal medicine and eventually open an animal shelter. I am a French Bulldog mama, and love my baby girl dearly! Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful year! Go Bees! |
Ed Perez
Assistant Editor Hello, my name is Eric Perez, also known as Chimi or Ed. I really enjoy writing, especially for The Buzz. All of my older siblings have taken journalism in the past, so I thought I would give it a try. Now that I have been a part of the journalism family for two years, I feel like it is my second home. I am an assistant editor this year, and I am ready for whatever is thrown at me. Outside my second family, I love to play sports, specifically tennis, and basketball. I enjoy spending time with my family watching movies and having weekly meals. I love to spend time with the journalism family, writing, and talking amongst each other for advice and personal opinions. |
Ash Merritt
Staff Writer Hi, hello! The name I respond to is Ash Merritt. I am from Idaho Falls, Idaho, I am a potato person (haha I like my stupid joke). I am a sophomore here at Bonneville. I joined journalism because I really liked yearbook and being around Wagner and Roman. I feel safe in this room, also when being within this room I feel at ease and less pressured to be someone I am not. I Ash, am passionate about creative writing, art, sewing, gaming, and reading, especially anything that is LGBTQ+ related, haha. I am looking forward to meeting new people, making more friends and finding more about myself. |
Roman Davis
Staff Writer Hullo, I am Roman Davis. I have been a part of the journalism team, yearbook team, and Bonneville High School for two years now. I am a junior, class of 2024 and a regular in Wagner's class. I am a big writer, cat lover, and one of your very open LGBTQ+ students at this school, being one of the transgender individuals at BHS. I joined journalism due to my love for writing and contributing to the school, and I stayed due to the family we have on the newspaper team. Feel free to stop me in the halls if you need a friend. ♡ |
Grisel Gonzalez
Staff Writer Hi! My name is Grisel Estella Gonzalez, and I am a freshman at Bonneville High School. This is my first year in journalism, and it has been great so far. I have many interests such as writing, drawing, playing soccer, baking, and watching Netflix. I enjoy creative writing and being able to come up with my own stories. My favorite movie is Five Feet Apart because I love sad, romantic movies. My favorite tv show is definitely Stranger Things. I only have one sibling named Adan, and he is eight years old. He is one of my best friends, even though he annoys me. My family is the most important thing to me, without family I would not be able to achieve a lot of things. I am so thrilled to be a part of this class and make this year a great year! |
Baylie Kress
Staff Writer Hey! My name is Baylie. I go to Bonneville High School, and I am a junior this school year. This will be my first year in journalism. I love to write, especially writing stories. I love dogs, and I have two dogs, a shih tzu and golden retriever. My favorite color is light purple. My favorite hobby is basketball; I love to play with my family and friends. I also love to watch movies in my free time, and to hangout with my friends and just do fun things together. The movies I like to watch are romances, mysteries, and comedies. One of my favorite foods is hamburgers! I have two brothers and two sisters. |
Heather Bryne
Staff Writer Hello! My name is Heather Byrne and I am a sophomore, but this is my first year being on The Bonneville Buzz team. I have always loved watching football, but I swim and wrestle. I have four younger siblings; two brothers and one sister. I took creative writing last year and decided that I like having a box to write in, and the idea of better educating the community is very appealing to me. I am proudly Aquarius, Slytherin, and Dauntless. My favorite book series is the Hunger Games because of the idea that that freedom has a cost and should be used well. I have lived here in Idaho Falls for the last two years, but I am originally from Boise. I have a border collie black lab mix that is unusually small for her breed. I love to hide in my room from my siblings and read an interesting book. I love science fiction and romance novels. |
Grace Wiklund
Staff Writer Top of the mornin’ to ya. I am Grace Wiklund, a freshman who joined journalism in 2022. (I am probably already a sophomore or even older by the time you are reading this.) The reason I joined journalism is because it randomly popped up into my schedule, but then again, I cannot remember if I signed up for class myself in the 8th grade. I am very much the weird kid and also a walking bag of memes. I am not much of a conversation person to be honest, so in addition into being the weird kid, I am also socially awkward. People have noted my tendency to use random accents when I am nervous, to which I very much agree with. I like creative things like drawing and video games. So, tell me reader…what is the meaning of life? Who is the omnipotent one who is pulling the strings? Is the moon a force of nature? If we are all marching to our dooms with time being our sole witness, then what even is the square root of 289…Anyways, I am mentally ill. :] |
Lukas Hellberg
Staff Writer Hi! My name is Lukas Hellberg, but I go by Hellberg. I am from a rural town in Oregon, where I suffered a great deal of uninterrupted mental anguish. I am a junior who is losing their motivation to continue their education. I joined journalism because current events are important, and spreading news with up-to-date information is needed, but seldom had. I am passionate about food, music, and international conflict. I also enjoy fencing, fishing, and sailing. I always like to say that it is not a “good morning” unless I am fishing! I am looking forward to meeting all kinds of unique, fun, and interesting people in journalism! |
Savana Carter
Staff Writer What is up? I am Savana Carter, a sophomore. I have always loved to write and do this to get information to others. I’ve done field events for track since eighth grade, shot put and discus, I build the sets for the theatre program and help the production. I have lived in Idaho Falls all my life. I love playing video games and reading. I was dragged into journalism by Roman, Ash, and Brandy and I was eating lunch in the classroom which started it all. The class is one of the best ways to start a day, have fun reading! |
Elliot Kidd
Staff Writer Hiya! My name is Elliot Kidd! I joined journalism to grow my writing. I am a sophomore, and this is my first year in journalism, hopefully not my last (I joined a cult and now I can’t leave). Some of my interests involved script-write, doing art, baking, reading, and trying new things. I love telling random facts about anything that interests me, which are mostly about myths and ancient cultures. I am part of the LGBTQ+ and gayyyyy. I’m always willing to talk and be a friend! |

Brooke Wagner
Staff Advisor
Howdy, howdy, howdy! I’m Mrs. Wagner. I am an English teacher at Bonneville High School. Along with teaching English, I am the newspaper and yearbook advisor. I am originally from Indiana and moved to Idaho about five years ago. I have been married to my husband, Josh, for about three and a half years. If you know me, you know I'm a crazy cat lady; we have the smallest, meanest, and cutest little black cat named Binx. He may be the devil reincarnate, so I'll keep you posted. My Harry Potter house is Slytherin and I am a Leo! I’m a sucker for anything salty and Dr. Pepper. I also enjoy rereading books and rewatching movies because I have probably forgotten the plot. Come back and visit us to keep up with The Buzz!
