Staff Writer What is happening in the state of Idaho? The 2021-2022 winter season has begun and is taking its time to shine. One evening in October, Southeast Idaho had its first winter. It was surprising, since it was so early in the season. Now Southeast Idaho is wondering, where did all that snow come from, and where did it go? Idaho is not seeing any more of it. Before 2017, it snowed every winter season. In 2018, the winter season was very dry. The season of the 2016-2017 there was a total of 39.1 inches for Boise, (KTVB). The 2017-2018 winter season only had 5.1 inches, a drastic change from the year before, which means something is happening; that something is global warming. What are the problems with global warming? The problems in Idaho and all around the world are major issues. Where is it hitting the most? In Antarctica, the temperature has increased 3℃ over the last 50 years, which is a problem. Antarctica ice is melting at half a millimeter a year (nationalgeographic.com). If ice melts at that rate, in 300 years, Antarctica will have lost 15 centimeters of ice. Keep adding on to that and there is a crisis in Antarctica. What is global warming doing to the polar ice caps? The world is losing a total of 13% of the arctic sea ice rate in the last decade, and also losing the oldest and thickest ice by 95%(worldwildlife.com). With the polar ice caps melting, scientists have recorded with the information given to us in the past years. The heat waves in the 1960’s averaged two heat waves a year to increase it to six heat waves according to a study from the 2010’s. Global warming is serious, so take action. Protect the environment, do not kill it. Do everything possible to save the planet. Save gas, by not letting toxins from the gas into the air saves plants and animals. Do not litter; by littering the world it is doing nothing but polluting and intoxicating the area of the people’s place to live.
