The Life of Kenna Goertzen
A staff writer for The Bonneville Buzz, Kenna Goertzen is a junior in high school, and a few of her favorite classes are journalism and environmental science. She joined journalism in the second trimester of her freshman year. She enjoys being a staff writer, but she would love to be an Editor in Chief.
Outside of journalism, Kenna loves to dance and has been dancing since she was a little kid. After doing ballet for six years, she decided to join the ballroom team during her sophomore year of high school; she tried out and made it on the Green Team, which consists of the beginning dancers. She tried out again her junior year and she made the highest team, called the Gold Team. In March 2020, she performed a cha-cha routine called “Don't Stop the Party” with the Green Team, winning first place at Utah Classic and second place at Gem State Classic. Some of her favorite standard dances include the waltz and foxtrot.
When she finishes high school, she wants to go to college at Boise State University or Idaho State University, majoring in either zoology or environmental science. Since she was little, Kenna has always dreamed of having a career that involves animals. When Kenna was a kid, she liked to collect National Geographic magazines, or watch Animal Planet and nature documentaries.
Kenna’s aesthetic can be defined as fairy-like and inspired by her connection to nature. She really enjoys nature because of the calm and serene atmosphere. According to Kenna, “Some days I wish that I was in a cottage in an enchanted forest.” One of her happy places is outside, either drawing or reading. She is a bit of an introvert and likes to be in solitude. Kenna's personality is like a fairy, bubbly and loud, but she can also be quiet and calm. Either way, Kenna can apply her energy to her writing for the newspaper.
Throughout her time on The Buzz, she has written a lot of stories. She is a hard worker and is punctual when submitting her articles. Kenna is known for dancing, journalism, fairies, nature, and animals. Go cheer on Kenna and the Bonneville Ballroom at their next performance at Thunder Stadium on October 21 at 7:00 P.M.
