Staff Writer On October 8th at 7:00 p.m., a battle on the football field took place. A rivalry that has been around for years, the Civil War between Hillcrest High School and Bonneville High School. It was a close game until Anthem Dahlke, the star wide receiver, secured the win with a 30 yard catch in the end zone, which was thrown by quarterback Jacob Perez. The victory, ending a seven year losing streak for the Bees, was a miracle. During an interview with Dahlke, he had nothing but humble words to say about the team's performance. “The defense played amazing, you know. We stoned them and there isn't much more we could've asked for.’’ Dahlke also commented on making the winning catch saying: “It feels really good, it was a great team effort and awesome to come out on top.’’ Koah Harrigfeld, a middle linebacker, gave insights on the previous week's practices and pre-game hype. “We practiced hard all week and played hard in the game.’’ The practices that week were a little colder than usual. Harrigfeld said, “In the locker room, we told ourselves losing isn't an option, and they came out and showed it.” Harrigfeld says the biggest moment of the game was the winning catch by Dahlke. Interviewing Luke Romander, a senior middle linebacker, he explained how he thought the game went. “The first drive was a little slow, fogged up but after that it was lights out.” The beginning plays started off slow, but the team was able to turn the tables. Head Coach Kevin Kempf was very pleased with the varsity's team performance, stating: “This is a very big win for the younger class to know what it feels like to win the Civil War.” Coach Kempf’s and the team’s win is the first in many years and will always be remembered. Having got their first win in over a season just the week before, the Bonneville Varsity Football Team took back Thunder Stadium. The long awaited Civil War win has bee pride skyrocketing! The team is now in the state playoffs and this Friday, October 29, go against Pocatello High School in the ISU mini dome. Be sure to show support to the boys and Go Bees!
