Staff Writer The fencing club at Bonneville High School has received varied attention throughout the years that it has existed, such as the large influx of members two years prior. With the club being led by a three-student group called the Triumvirate, each year they have advertised their club in a similar way. Adam Roth, a junior who has been a member of the fencing club since freshman year, shared some of his pre-season thoughts in an interview regarding the club. Roth had a variety of ideas about the fencing club’s advertisement strategies. Not only did Roth discuss how well-known he believes that the fencing club was, he continued with how it could become more known by other students, especially the incoming freshmen. “Get the publicity out… Propaganda, just get the word out.” Moreover, Roth mentioned the homecoming parade and how it could advertise the club to both current and future students of BHS. “A lot of the elementary school students, they are going to [say] ‘Wow, there is a fencing team, that looks so cool.’” The excitement of the elementary school students could lead to a vast group of new students joining the club when they become a high school student. Not only are there plentiful ideas about the club’s popularity circulating, Roth furthermore discussed how he feels about the club. “There is a really good community, for the most part we all get along, and we are all chivalrous. The teacher is great; the instruction is great.” In addition, Roth and his fellow teammates are very excited for the upcoming tournament, which is coming up after Christmas break. Although Bonneville fencers have not scheduled all forthcoming events, they are eager for the upcoming tournament, as well as a variety of possibilities for the future of the club. Roth mentions his excitement for the possibility of the fencing club having letters. “One thing I hope they are [going to] do this year is lettering… I have an athlete ‘B,’ but not a club ‘B.’” Numerous clubs have given out letters, and the fencers are excited to see if their club will get the same treatment. In short, the members of the fencing club at BHS have formed their own opinions of the fencing club and how it advertises itself. From their flyers posted around the school to the Homecoming parade, the club’s membership will hopefully grow further in the future and give them the membership that they deserve.

Such an interesting topic! I never felt a presence from the fencing team while at Bonneville, so I think it's so cool of you to shed some light on them!
