Staff Writer The Bonneville basketball team represented Bonneville High School when playing against Preston and Twin Falls with skill and strategy; they fought until the end of each game, showing large amounts of strength. Despite Bonneville's fall to Preston and Twin Falls, the Bees proved they belonged on the state stage. The Bees faced elite competition at state level, where every roster is dangerous; some more than others. The players for the teams Preston and Twin Falls had a lot of size and length, something our team lacked. Although our team fought hard, they were not able to win all of the games. Even though we lost, our team still did a valiant job at showing just how skilled they are. One key moment that occurred during one of the games was when they played against Preston, and the boys were down by more than 30 points in the third quarter. The bench players came on and from the third into the fourth quarter they cut the lead down to 9. They had more energy and were, therefore, able to play more efficiently. Coach Cortland Hengel was still very proud even with their loss. He was extremely impressed with how his team played. “We ended up losing by 12, but Preston was gassed by the end of the game. My kids fought until the end.” Despite everyone doing an excellent job, there were a few standout players who caught Coach Hengel’s attention. Lucas Arave made an immediate impact against Preston, racking up 11 points in a mere eight minutes of play. Against Twin Falls, the offensive load shifted to Grayson Temple and Tyler Jordan, who put up 18 and 16 points respectively.'" Coach Hengel said that what made these students stand out was, “Their mental toughness until the final buzzer, and the fact that they never gave up.”
