In the second movie, released in 2022, Sonic teams up with a character from old games named Tails to stop Eggman from getting the Chaos emeralds and taking over the world again; that movie introduces Knuckles. SMALL SPOILERS FOR THE BEGINNING The third movie of the Sonic Series begins with Shadow breaking out of a government facility off the coast of Tokyo after 50 years of being there, and he is angry. The movie transitions over to Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles celebrating Sonic's B-Earth-Day. Sonic finds his old home, and there is a touching moment between him and Tom, a cop who becomes his gaurdian, when Sonic sees a picture he drew on the wall of him and his guardian, Longclaw. Tom tells Sonic he is proud of him for not letting his past change him, and that becomes a large part of the story. The government shows up and tells them about Shadow, telling Sonic that capturing Shadow is his job now. The gang travels to Tokyo to fight Shadow and his air shoes. It is revealed why Shadow is vengeful; he misses his friend Maria Robotnik. The movie goes over how people should not let their past change them; it shows Sonic being able to mourn Longclaw without getting revenge and Shadow seeking revenge for Maria. Sonic shows Shadow the importance of not letting the past influence future decisions. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 can be a tearjerker for long-time Sonic fans with emotional parts; however, there are plenty of hilarious moments referencing the old games and shows.
